Telegram Login Code Not Arriving? Check the Delivery Route Before Paying
Find where Telegram sent your login code, understand its official SMS fee, and weigh the recovery risk of a temporary number before paying.

When a Telegram login code does not arrive, the first question is where Telegram sent it. A missing SMS does not necessarily mean that no code was issued. Telegram may send a login code inside an existing signed-in Telegram session, and some official-app signups may show a Premium payment requirement. Those are different situations and need different responses.
First, check another signed-in device
Telegram's official FAQ says it may send the code to your Telegram chat on an existing device instead of an SMS. Open the verified Telegram service chat on every phone or desktop where you are still signed in. Do not confuse that chat with Verification Codes, which Telegram says is for codes requested by third-party services. Never share either code with a seller or support agent.
If your existing session works, you may also be able to set up a passkey and review active sessions. Keep access to a phone number you control. Telegram warns that losing control of the number can mean losing the account.
Then check the phone number and the next available route
Enter the number in international format, including the country code. For Nigeria, that starts with +234, followed by the mobile number without its leading zero. Check the exact number on the login screen before repeatedly requesting new codes. If Telegram offers a resend, call, email, QR or passkey route, use only the option shown in the official app. Availability varies by account, device and circumstances; a call is not guaranteed.
If a code is delayed, allow the app's timer to complete before choosing another route. Rapid repeated attempts are unlikely to repair a wrong number or a carrier problem. Check your mobile connection and ask your carrier whether SMS delivery is blocked. Telegram provides a login support form when its normal troubleshooting does not work.
If Telegram asks for an SMS fee
The official Telegram authentication documentation describes a payment-required response in some countries or carrier conditions, handled in official clients through Telegram Premium. Our separate guide explains why the Telegram SMS verification fee can appear. A third-party temporary number does not remove an official Telegram charge, guarantee an SMS, or guarantee long-term account access. Check the exact prompt in the official app before paying anyone.
Should you buy a temporary number?
If this is a business account or an account you need to recover later, use a number you personally control. A rented or shared number may expire, be recycled, or be inaccessible when Telegram asks you to verify again. TetherFlux lists SMS verification options for supported services, but availability and receiving a code depend on the live offer and the platform. Review the service and its terms before spending; do not treat a one-time rental as durable account ownership. The Kenya temporary-number safety guide explains the same recovery trade-off.
Quick decision checklist
- Check the verified Telegram chat in every existing signed-in session.
- Confirm the full international phone number.
- Follow only the alternate delivery method shown by the official app.
- If a payment screen appears, verify that it is Telegram's own flow and read the amount and subscription terms.
- If the number belongs to you and no route works, contact your carrier and Telegram support.
- For any number rental, evaluate future recovery before placing an order.
